We just wrapped up an injection foam wall insulation project on a 1,000 square foot brick ranch home in St. Francis, Wisconsin, and the blower door numbers speak for themselves: the home is now about 63% tighter than before we started.
The results
| Test | Air leakage (CFM50) |
|---|---|
| Before insulation | 2,642 |
| After insulation | 989 |
| Reduction | 1,653 (62.6%) |
CFM50 measures how many cubic feet of air per minute leak through a house when it is held at a standard test pressure of 50 pascals. Lower is better. This home now lets in about one-third of the outside air it did before.
How we measured it
We tested the home with a calibrated Retrotec blower door before the job and again after. Both tests used the same setup, so the comparison is apples to apples. We don’t guess at results. We measure them.
