Open framing is where spray foam shines: new construction, additions, basement walls, garages, pole barns, and the top of your basement walls (the rim joist). Closed-cell foam air seals and insulates in one pass, so cold air, drafts, and the gaps mice use to get in are sealed shut.
Minimum job: $1,800. Priced by the square foot and by thickness, in whole inches. Erik gives you a firm written number at the free estimate. Rim joists are a flat $2,500, or $2,000 with a wall job.
The rim joist is an open gap between your floor and your foundation. Foam seals it airtight.
Foam fills around joists, wiring, and pipes, with no gaps for air to slip through.
We tape off the area and cover big items like the washer, dryer, and water heater before we spray.
1. Prep. We tape off the work area with plastic and cover anything nearby. On rim joists, old insulation comes out, gets bagged and hauled away, and the cavity is vacuumed and disinfected before we spray.
2. Spray. Closed-cell foam goes on in whole-inch passes to the thickness on your proposal.
3. Cure and clean up. Most rim joist jobs take four to six hours. We clean up and haul away everything we brought in.
Plan to stay out for 24 hours. The manufacturer recommends occupants stay out of the sprayed area for 24 hours while the foam cures, and sensitivity varies from person to person. Keep the door to that area closed and the windows open. Once cured, the foam is safe to touch.
Walls already closed up? That’s what our injection foam is for. We fill finished walls from the outside, without touching a wall in your living space. See injection foam →
