Questions We Get Every Week
Straight answers, no runaround — the same ones Erik gives
at your kitchen table.
THE BASICS
What is injection foam?
A foam that’s injected into your existing wall cavities as a soft,
shaving-cream consistency, flows around wiring and pipes, and cures into a complete,
stable fill. It insulates and air-seals in one step, and it never settles or sags.
How is this different from spray foam?
Spray foam is applied to open surfaces — it
needs your walls opened up. Injection foam is made for closed walls in existing
homes: it goes in through small access points from outside, no demolition. It’s the
highest R-value you can put in your walls without tearing them out.
How is it different from blown-in cellulose?
Cellulose settles — decades later it’s
compacted into the bottom of each cavity with an empty, cold gap at the top, and it does
nothing to stop air movement. Foam fills the entire cavity, seals air leaks as it fills, and
holds its performance for the life of the home.
Is the foam safe?
Yes. Non-toxic once cured, Class 1 fire rated, and it doesn’t off-gas
into your living space.
THE WORK
How long does the job take?
Most homes: one day. Two-story homes or anything over 1,400 sq ft: two days.
Do you have to tear open my walls?
No. We work from the outside — siding comes off,
foam goes in, siding goes back on. Nothing inside is opened unless you choose interior
drilling.
What if I don’t want holes drilled on the outside of my house?
No problem — we can
drill from the inside instead, through drywall or plaster, and leave a rough patch at every
hole. You handle the sanding, priming, and painting once we’re finished, and your
exterior stays untouched.
How do you drill through my brick?
We don’t. We drill through the mortar joints
between the bricks with a 5/8-inch bit — a hole about the size of a dime — then seal
with new mortar, color matched as close as possible. Your brick is never touched.
Can I stay home during the install?
Yes — most customers do. The work happens
outside; you’ll hear drilling and the rig running, and we’re done by dinner.
Do you work in the winter?
Never stop. We work all year round — the cold doesn’t
affect the foam when we inject it into your walls, and neither does the heat. If your
driveway is passable, we’re working.
My walls already have old insulation in them. Can you still do this?
Usually, yes —
settled loose-fill leaves most of the cavity empty, and the thermal camera shows us
exactly what’s there. Erik will give you a straight answer at the estimate after scanning
your specific walls.
THE RESULTS
Will I actually feel a difference?
The first cold night or the first hot day. And you won’t
have to take it on faith — the before-and-after blower door tests put a number on it: our
tests routinely measure at least 25% less air leakage, and up to 50%.
Will this stop my pipes from freezing?
Pipes in exterior walls freeze because cold air
pours through the empty cavity around them. Foam fills that cavity and shuts off the air
infiltration — dramatically reducing the freeze risk that has you leaving faucets dripping
every January.
Will it make my house quieter?
Noticeably. Customers tell us the quiet is the first
thing they notice — street noise fades and voices stop carrying through walls.
Will my furnace and A/C last longer?
Equipment that isn’t running constantly wears
out slower. Insulated walls mean fewer cycles, less strain, and more years before you’re
writing a check for replacement.
THE MONEY
What does it cost?
Every home is different, which is why estimates are free and come
with real measurements — not a guess over the phone. Every estimate is done
personally by Erik, the owner.
Do you offer a military discount?
Yes — $750** off for anyone who has ever served in
the United States Armed Forces: active duty, Guard, Reserve, retired, or veteran. Owned
by a retired Army Master Sergeant, so this one’s personal. Also: $500** off for first
responders, $500** off for homeowners 60 and better. One discount per job — the largest
one applies.
**Discounts apply to whole-home projects with a minimum job size of $5,000. One discount per household.
How do the Focus on Energy rebates work?
Qualifying wall insulation projects earn a
check mailed to you, made out to you — minimum $1,425, up to $2,025. We’re a Focus
on Energy Trade Ally and we handle every page of the paperwork. You just cash the
check.
Is there a warranty?
The strongest one we know how to write: our Lifetime-of-theHome, Transferable Warranty. The foam is warranted never to settle, sag, or lose
performance for as long as your house stands — and it transfers to the next owner if you
sell. Covered warranty work is fully covered: no trip fee, no material fee, no technician
fee.
