The oldest housing stock in Wisconsin

Milwaukee didn’t get built last decade. Most of the city went up between 1890 and 1950 — before anyone in this country thought seriously about insulating a wall. The craftsmanship is better than anything being framed today. The thermal performance is not.

If your house is a bungalow off Kinnickinnic, a duplex in Riverwest, or a cream city brick two-flat, there is a good chance the exterior walls are wood lath, plaster, sheathing, siding — and a hollow cavity in between doing nothing at all.

We’re a Waukesha County company that works Milwaukee every week. How It Works

1–2 days, from the outside

Inspect & measure

A blower door test gives us a hard number on how much air your house is leaking right now. Thermal imaging shows exactly where. You see it before we quote a dollar.

Access

On siding, we remove one course and drill the sheathing. On brick, we drill the mortar joints — never the brick face. Every stud bay gets reached, including the short ones above windows.

Fill

Injection foam flows in with a shaving-cream consistency, works around wires and pipes, fills the cavity corner to corner, then cures in place. The thermal camera stays out while we work.

Finish & prove it

Siding goes back exactly as it was. On brick, we seal and color-match the mortar. Then a second blower door test, so you see the before and after side by side.

Me and my wife just bought our first house and discovered that our bedroom was very cold compared to the rest of the house, and that our furnace was almost constantly running struggling to keep the house warm. Cozy Walls came out and insulated the entire house and garage and found out that most of our walls had no insulation anymore due to the age and the insulation deteriorating. Since having work done our bedroom is much warmer and our furnace runs a lot less, saving us money! Amy and Zach run a great business and their crew was very professional. And it was very affordable and cost-effective. They placed blankets over my motorcycles in the garage so they wouldn't get dirty during the work being performed and they cleaned up everything very well after. Until I found these two companies, I had an awful and long time getting one to return my calls or come out for an estimate. I saw an ad on TV for Healthy Home Insulation, left a message on a Sunday, they came out the next day! Before Erik left he gave me an estimate for attic and basement (Healthy Homes) as well the walls from (Cozy Walls Insulation.) They were out here the following week to complete the job! I have HORRIBLE allergies that can cause my eyes to swell shut to causing vertigo. I was concerned that the smell of foam spray would be an issue. Amy, Cozy Walls said they would come out try a wall see how it went. If it was ok, complete the job, if not, we would figure something out. To me this is a company that truly cares about their customers! BOTH companies have gone above and beyond from start to finish. I would recommend them to anyone!

What homeowners here ask

My house is cream city brick. Can you still do it?

Yes. We drill through the mortar joints between courses rather than through the brick itself, fill each cavity, then seal and color-match the mortar. Cream city brick is soft and porous compared to modern brick, so it gets handled carefully — but it’s routine work for us.

I have a two-flat. Do you do both units?

Yes. We treat the full exterior wall assembly, which covers both floors. If the units are separately owned, we’ll need agreement from both parties before we start.

My walls are plaster and lath. Does that matter?

Not for us — we work from the outside, so your plaster is never touched. That’s the main reason injection foam suits Milwaukee housing better than tearing walls open.

There's already insulation in there from a previous owner. Now what?

Depends what it is and what shape it’s in. Settled fiberglass usually still leaves us room to work. Loose cellulose typically needs to come out first. We’ll tell you which situation you’re in during the inspection, and if injection foam isn’t the right answer for your house, we’ll say so.

Will the holes show?

On siding, no — we remove a course, drill the sheathing behind it, and put the siding back. On brick, the mortar plugs are sealed and color-matched. From the sidewalk, you won’t pick them out.

How long does a Milwaukee bungalow take?

Most are done in a single day; two-story homes or anything over 1,400 sq ft take two. Larger homes and some two-flats occasionally run into a second.

Do you work in winter?

Yes. There are temperature limits on the product and we’ll be honest with you if conditions aren’t right on a given day, but Wisconsin winter is when people call us most — and it’s when the difference is most obvious.
